Nobuyuki Tsujii
Hi, again from U.S.A.
Mr. Tsujii wrote on his own website that the recital was nearly sold out, and that he received a standing ovation and loud cheers, and performed four encores. Sorry to hear about the runny nose noise :-) Mr. Tsujii has allergies - perhaps that's the reason. Yes, it is true that sometimes it takes a while to filter out his head swaying and the noise of his breathing, but as Hvostova wrote, one gets used to it after a while. I have been to eight of Mr. Tsujii's concerts, on two continents. Everyone of them was a thrill.

Absolutely agree with everything written: the concert with the orchestra was a real thrill and it looked like true sold-out (and even more: I don't remember so crowded concert hall had been before this concert). I remember three encores (but, maybe, I had left the hall before the fourth encore was performed).

Hvostova,

Thank you for your kind response to my comment and, again, for your original excellent post.

Mr. Tsujii played three encores on July 8, four on July 10, according to his own official website http://www.nobupiano1988.com/recitalreport/

I would like to mention that there are photos from the July 8 performance that are offered by Photo Express Russia, here http://goo.gl/q0caO
These are excellent photos.

However, some of them you can also view on this page:

Forgive me if you have seen a note similar to this one. I posted a comment like this one a little while ago, but I am afraid that it was marked as spam, perhaps because I included URLs in it. So I am posting this without the links and hope it will show up properly.

I think my first comment to your original article was also not posted, because it contained links. So I am re-posting it below, without the links. Forgive me if you have seen it already.

You don't know me. I found your blog post on the Internet today when I was searching for Nobuyuki Tsujii news on the Internet, for the readers of a website that I run for the international fans of Mr. Tsujii, which you can find if you google "nobufans".

I am sorry that I cannot write in your beautiful Russian language; I live in the U.S.A. I hope you can understand me in English.

Mr. Tsujii has many admirers all over the world. You may be interested in an article that was posted by Radio Orpheus (Moscow), which includes a 6-minute audio about the July 8 performance, including a little bit of the ending of the Tchaikovsky piano concerto.

In his report about the performance posted on his own official website,
Mr. Tsujii wrote that he was originally to perform in the first half of the concert, but the order of the two halves were switched for the performance. He also revealed that the 3 encore pieces are: (i) Rachmaninoff:Prelude Op32-12, (2) "Still, we live" (original composition, elegy to Japan earthquake victims) and (3) Tchaikovsky: Troika.
He wrote that the three encores were inspired by Maestro Gergiev. He wrote that he received a unanimous standing ovation from the audience,
I think Mr. Tsujii is very happy with his experience in St. Petersburg.

As a fan of Mr. Tsujii, I am grateful to Maestro Gergiev and to those who were at the concert like you. I only wish I were there.

I can easily understand English, so very glad to correspond with you.

Actually they have changed the program of the concert and, up to my opinion, it was a very sensible decision: after such a difficult to listen and concentrate on sypmhony as that one composed by Shostakovich the music of Tchaikovsky was a full joy and happiness. To tell the truth, I was very pleasantly astonished with the performance of this Tchaikovsky's concert offered by Mr.Tsujii: he was excellent in this music which is very-very well known from the first to the last note by music lovers in Russia.

I just hope Mr.Tsujii liked to play with the Mariinsky orchestra and Maestro Gergiev for they were playing together as one and it sounded great.

Before this performance, Mr. Tsujii had performed the Tchaikovsky concerto many times -- in Japan, U.S., and in England. You can see two of these performances on video on YouTube. And a performance of him with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra was released on CD in 2011.

But this performance with Maestro Valery Gergiev at the Mariinsky Theatre is special, not only because of the prestige of the conductor, the orchestra and the venue, but also that the performance took place in the great composer Tchaikovsky's homeland, and especially one with such a rich tradition in classical music. I think Mr. Tsujii was aware that it was an important performance.

In an article posted by Radio Orpheus (99,2FM, Moscow) about the July 8 performance, Mr. Gergiev hinted at an upcoming tour of the two in Japan, and Mr. Tsujii said he was very happy with working with the maestro and he was impressed with the acoustics of the theatre.

I am looking forward to seeing them performing together, with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, some day in some major concert hall in the world.

Thanks again for your warm words for Mr. Tusjii; they have made many fans of him very happy.

If such a tour really takes place, it will be a true gift to those who love music.

Thank you very much for the Mr.Tusjii's praise of the acoustics: I'm quite happy we can enjoy it regularly, because all the musicians and singers performing there always mention its excellent sound. (By the way, the acoustics was designed by the Japanese engineer).

It also seems to me that the concert was recorded, so, perhaps, one day it will be released under Mariinsky label.

EuroArts Music has posted a lot of photos from the July 8 event, some of which showed cameras recording the performance. I asked and the reply came quickly that yes, the performance was recorded, and it will be released on DVD. I cannot wait to watch the concert.
